Lizzy J Cafe is a family-owned and operated one of a kind breakfast and brunch cafe is Located in the heart of one of Chicago's prominent communities, Lincoln Park. Lizzy J is known for its loving atmosphere, delicious eats, and its homemade teas! We are looking for a Server that can be available for an upcoming busy weekend event.
The Server serves food and beverages to customers in a friendly, efficient, and professional manner and ensures a positive experience for all customers. Each Server is responsible for ensuring the successful delivery of the Lizzy J Cafe’s philosophy based upon three distinct core beliefs: Hospitality, Quality and Value.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Serve customers as part of a team by anticipating their needs, initiating conversation, offering assistance and advice, and remembering that “the customer is always right!”
- Perform dining room set-up, running side work and closing duties.
- Have extensive knowledge of the restaurant’s menu, including daily specials.
- Participate in table and area clean up.
- Compute customer checks, operate the POS system and accept payments.
- Accurately report tips for each shift.
- Maintain dining room safety and sanitation standards.
- Be aware of potential hazards, which could cause, but are not limited to, slipping, tripping, falling or burns.
- Arrive for each shift on time and in full uniform.
- Attend all pre-shift meetings ready to “listen and learn” and share ideas.
- Keep a clean and professional appearance at all times.
- May perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
To perform Server job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Education and/or Experience:
High school diploma or GED preferred and three years to five years' experience serving in a restaurant preferred; or a combination of education and experience.
Skills:
Ability to effectively communicate verbally with customers and other staff in fast-paced environment. Ability to do basic math. Ability to follow instructions and procedures. Must be of legal age to serve alcohol. Must have strong customer service skills and be able to maintain poise and positive personality when under pressure.

Growing up as a little girl in Philadelphia, I watched the women in my life prepare meals as simple as Sunday morning breakfast of pancakes, eggs and grits to our holiday feast with staples like candied yams and macaroni and cheese. No matter what dish, love was the main ingredient. And, we always had plenty of it to add to whatever we made. My family created numerous memories over a plate of delicious, well prepared food.
For more than 25 years, I worked as an event planner and tasted the finest of every cuisine. My travels have taken me to complete classes with Food Network star, Tyler Florence and cooking with executive chefs in the industry. I have been trained at the hip of my grandmother and godmother.
My professional experience has expanded my personal palette and my creativity. Since moving to Illinois, I have completed the required licensure and insurances required from the state.
My love of food and creating special moments is my motivation for launching Lizzy J. Named after five generations of first born woman with the middle name of Elizabeth, I am the fourth generation Elizabeth.
Lizzy J is a full service catering company. We specialize in everyday food with an extraordinary twist. We still incorporate the family staple of love into each dish. We believe every guest should have a memorable experience that exceeds her expectations. We aim to 'wow' you. Our philosophy is that excellence is in the details, and we don't settle for anything less.
We offer a spectrum of services from an intimate anniversary dinner for two to a wedding celebration of 200 guests. We specialize in the big and the small. We can skillfully handle everything from concept to execution.
